Minimalism and Trading

Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is stripped down to its most fundamental features. As a specific movement in the arts it is identified with developments in post-World War II Western Art, most strongly with American visual arts in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Prominent artists associated with this movement include Donald Judd, Agnes Martin, Robert Morris, and Frank Stella. It is rooted in the reductive aspects of Modernism, and is often interpreted as a reaction against Abstract expressionism and a bridge to Postmodern art practices.
The term "minimalist" is often applied colloquially to designate anything which is spare or stripped to its essentials. It has also been used to describe the plays and novels of Samuel Beckett, the films of Robert Bresson, the stories of Raymond Carver, and even the automobile designs of Colin Chapman.

Sometimes. less is more.  The new subscription service covers about 20 symbols, mostly because I tried to include something for everyone.  In reality, one could simply follow a single symbol, like SDS and do quite well over the course of 2010.  This is in fact my own preferred strategy for certain personal and managed accounts.

Let's not get all dazed and confused out there,  simplicity has its own engaging elegance:

SDS Daily

Allan your last alert was a bit confusing. Did the daily flip to a long here? The trigger price you mentioned yesterday dropped by .50?

As of 10:00 AM EDT the Hourly Models all triggered new signals.

The Daily models cannot trigger until the end of day, today and remain where they were as of yesterday's close. That said, the Daily triggers are getting very close to new Daily signals.

Allan - I too am confused - on the daily. The chart posted for SDS (with an 8:56 am timestamp) shows a reversal to long at 33.91. This is significantly different than what the daily alert indicates...

Dog,

That's a preliminary BUY and needs to be confirmed by a close above the buy threshold at the close, today. Consider it "interim" and yes, you can trade it but be prepared to exit if it fails to be confirmed later this afternoon.

What I am confused about is the daily trigger right now is under the present market price so did we actually trigger the long at this point and are waiting for the confirmation on the close that the price is still above the trigger? If yes I believe your backtesting has shown that one should go with the trigger on an intraday basis, although there is potential for whipsaws? Is my analysis correct here?

Thanks,
Paul

Simplicity and working with SDS....sounds perfect.

Simplicity but LOTS of confusion?

What is the line that decides your exit and entry in the top graph? Is that ATR?

That line is the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference of the NHL. The Red Wings, devastated all year my injuries, are one point out of that final playoff spot. WIth man of their injured players due back this month, the Wings might be a sleeper bet to win the Stanley Cup. I'm watching the oddsmakers, but they seem to know what I know. Still, if they don't tighten those odds soon, it might be worth a shot. I'll notify my subscribers first, of course.

Allan, this is like a post jobs report analysis by the government... are you trying to spin it to not seem as bad as it is? j/k

Its not off to a good start tonight against the Islanders plus Holstrom is now out as Franzen and Zetterberg are coming back.

True test for the Red Wings is on Jan 17th vs my Blackhawks... As an investing man and subscriber to your trend models, I'm taking the Blackhawks on all timeframes.

The Blackhawks, yes, I remember them, are they still in Chicago? Are they still in the NHL?

Surely you remember running through Chicago on the way to most of those Stanley Cups...

We should make a friendly wager on the 17th or come the playoffs if the Wings end up in the 8 spot...
