SGMO

Here's the hype: http://tinyurl.com/qx3st

The stock that is being hyped will be identified by this newsltter service after the close of trading today (May 25th). But it looks to me like it's Sangamo Biosciences Inc. (SGMO):

Our Technology Focus
Sangamo is focused on the research and commercial development of engineered DNA-binding proteins for the regulation of gene expression and for gene modification. The basis of our proprietary technology is the engineering of a naturally occurring class of transcription factors, zinc finger DNA-binding proteins (ZFPs). When linked to functional domains that normally activate or repress gene expression, we create ZFP transcription factors (ZFP TFs) capable of turning genes on or off. ZFPs can also be linked to nuclease domains to create zinc finger nucleases (ZFNs). Engineered ZFNs can modify genomic DNA at a preselected location facilitating either correction or disruption of a specific gene.

I'm in.

I'm following you on this Allan. The price I got was 5.80, in the middle of today's range. I wish I'd seen your post earlier this morning!

HH, that's about what I paid, it ran up 20 cents while I was doing my dd on it, looking good now.

I don't see how it can't be this company. They talk about the same Z finger doodad in their 10-Q.

Question is this..how long will it be before news comes out? a few days? weeks? or months? I'm in for a small position in case it is in weeks or months. If it is, there will probably be a pullback after all the hype dies down a bit. Of course, if I'm wrong, then I will have missed out. Oh well, that's how the game is played.

God luck.

Hi A:

Does Ilene have an opinion on this biotechnology/science? It does seem to fit in nicely with our RNA Interference basket: RNAI, ALNY, CYTR, ARWR etc.

I've got a tight stop loss sell order in and will raise it if the hype from the release of the newsletter pushes the price up. I would expect the price could drift back to trend as the hype wears off in a few days. Then I would need to decide if I want to reestablish a position at a lower price.

We shall see what happens in the next few days.

I am not sure this technology will measure to the hype..its much too early. Incidentally, one of the scientists mentioned in the ZF link is an old colleague of mine.

Allan:

Thx for all you picks.

In return, I want to point out CRDM which just a FDA approval for their ablation system...

Press release:
*************************************

Cardima Inc. said Thursday it received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market its ablation system, which ablates cardiac tissue during heart surgery using radio frequency energy.

Fremont-based Cardima (OTC BB:CRDM - News) said the system is expected to be used primarily by surgeons performing cardiac surgery using standard hospital laparoscopic as well as thorascopic techniques.

Cardima, which was incorporated in 1992, develops and markets micro-catheters designed for the diagnosis and treatment of the two most common forms of cardiac arrhythmias: atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia .

Isn't it almost criminal that the author of the newsletter had a secret that for all intents and purposes could be called insider information?

Beautiful call, again, Allan.

Unfortunately, I was defending a depo yesterday and did not catch your update until late last night.

Please keep up the great work.

Tim

Quick follow-up. Just took some PGWC based upon back-to-back I-Buys by the CEO today. After the first buy, I did a little down-and-dirty DD and plunged in head first. Subsequently, the second buy notice hit my email. So, I feel better about this trade.
At all events, have a great weekend!

Wondering what folks thoughts on whether this news is significant to SGMO's cash/profits to sustain this mini-rally?

JMHO the chart (and yahoo boards) both may be saying this was a 2 day move and it's back down to the trend line.

I'm looking for opinion on SGMO as well as PHRM for multi-week appreciation??

Or are the choppy times and weakness in true knowledge make it a crap shoot?

Have a great weekend, curt

Depends on your time horizon curt504. Long term, with a little luck (the Z-finger technique proves itself and eventually makes it to market with broad application), this price is a steal. But if you're looking for the absolute best price to get in at, I would wait. If I recall my reading of yesterday's PRs correctly, they had good results with rats and are moving onto human studies during the 2nd half of this year.

I'm not sure what to make of the $50 million registration to raise funds. Their cash position is good enough to see them through the about another 6 quarters at their current burn rate. I can only assume its to acquire assets considering the health of the company based on their financial statements.

Good luck.

Like I said, temporary POP and better to get in after the hype.

The issue was never wheher or not Z Finger is viable, it is and has always been whether or you can catch a quick pop on the underlying stock. We did. End of story.
