Forty-nine years ago today our lives were forever changed as a cross-fire of shots rang out across Dealey Plaza, a few yards past the Texas School Book Depository. From then, from Vietnam to the Patriot Act, our leaders chose a dark and somber path for not only us in America, but for the entire world.

I don't pretend to know where he may have led us, led the country, the world, had he lived. But I am pretty sure the course of history would have not have landed us here.

This date and time will always be remembered, not just for what was, but for what could have been.

Amazing speech.

President Garfield said that the truth would set us free....but first it would make us miserable.

Rudyard Kipling wrote an amazing poem in the aftermath of WWI. In it he offers a plausible explanation why we often prefer fiction to the truth.
